The trouble with alcohol is…

Hmm, what exactly is the trouble with alcohol?

1) The part where we all tend to forget our deeds ?
2) The part where we speak ever so directly about how we feel and act on it?
3) The morning after?

On number 1 I guess we all have to agree that forgetting is sometimes very shameful. You don’t remember who you’ve kissed, where your hands went, what you said but most of all who’s seen it. On the other hand, drinking to forget isn't that shameful but just human.

Number 2 is about the cliché we all have heard once in our lives: "Children and drunks always tell the truth." So when that one guy tells you he’s interested and that he’s been wrong about you, do you have to believe it? What about the body parts all over the place when the two of you have been drinking? Does it still make sense the next day?

What is there to believe? It’s no secret that drunk people are more loosen up than others. But I can’t help but wonder how much of your free will is there still to find in the drunk you? Or has the alcohol just sent you on a path without a gps? All sober thoughts pushed into a corner only to act upon the drunk ones? Or is there still truth in our thoughts when we act on them?

And what about the morning after? How much do you really remember of last night? Sometimes it’s great when the puzzle falls in order after talking it over with some friends ‘cause nobody wants to be left in the dark. But do we really want to remember everything? I mean, seriously?

Dronkenschap is de eerlijkheid waarvan we ons achteraf kunnen distantiëren.

Maar het blijft wel eerlijkheid...
